Back in 2020, Dr. Alessio Fasano of Harvard Medical School shocked the world when he declared that “all disease begins in the leaky gut.” And because one of the biggest causes of leaky gut are food allergies – particularly gluten – a whole new realm of allergen-free nutrition was born.
Since then, we have seen an explosion in gut health books, autoimmunity protocols and elimination diets. In this emerging science, there is one person I trust more than anyone else. His name is Dr. Tom O’Bryan.
Dr. Tom is the author of The Autoimmune Fix and an internationally recognized speaker and writer on chronic disease and metabolic disorders. He has dedicated his life to understanding the complications of Non-Celiac Gluten Sensitivity, Celiac Disease, and the development of autoimmune diseases.
A few months back we had a great conversation as part of The Sacred Science Inner Circle, and I wanted to share a curated segment from it with you today. In the video below, we unpack the infamous “leaky gut” syndrome and explore the role systemic inflammation plays in almost every chronic disease we know of.
If you’ve heard the term leaky gut innumerable times but still don’t really grasp what it means, then this clip is for you. Dr. Tom really breaks it down, explaining how genetics, food allergies, environmental triggers and tears in your intestinal lining contribute to chronic systemic inflammation and the creation of dis-ease in the body.
According to the CDC, 14 of the Top 15 leading causes of death in the world today are chronic inflammatory diseases.
That means that getting your gut right is imperative to improving every other system of your body.
If you enjoy this clip with Tom, you can watch the full conversation with a FREE trial membership to our Inner Circle. You’ll also get access to more talks like this and a ton of other monthly goodies.
Hope to see you there!

Clearest explanation I’ve ever heard. Have you thought of producing a cartoon short of this info?
How do you build a healthy microbiome? I’m mainly wfpb. I do eat a vegan cookie or yogurt per day. I eat raw and cooked foods. I don’t follow fodmat. I’m 61 and trying real hard to understand.
I so appreciate you Nick and all that you bring to us. Dr. Tom is a favorite of mine as he explains things so well. I bought his inflammation equation in August and I still re=read my notes from the Inner alchemy program I did with you last Nov-Dec.
Thank you for this very important information. It becomes life changing.
Thank You for thia greaqt information. I know onky too well about inflamation in the gut and pyloric area as I had my stomach scoped, biopsied, along with photos where I could see the inflamation. Food allergies developed after Chemotherapy. Today 4 years clear of cancer as I know from the tests provided and finally my food allergies have corrected. No longer gluten allergic along with many other foods plus the inflamation has relaxed in my stomach and associated areas. No nausea for at least 6 months. Drinking lots of good water I think and eating better.
Thanks for everything! I am very interested in your information about healing inflamation and more!
Fabulous – totally fabulous – So important. I will be sharing this with many.. I remember Dr., Tom from some earlier time and trust him as I do Nick. Thank you so much.
Very helpful and informative. Thank you. One piece that is not clear to me:
How does inflammation and the inflammation response (to toxins, bad guys, etc) tear the lining of the gut?
It seems like the lining of the gut could withstand quite a bit of inflammation without tearing.
How does the the inflammation lead to the tearing?
Thank you for explaining this!
You might be interested in my situation. I am a very healthy 79 year old with perfect Cholesterol levels and calcium score of zero. I eat mainly plant based foods with the addiction of fish. In the last 2 years, have also added lots of fermented food in my diet, ie, kamboocha, tempeh , kefir. Now I have developed high histamine and mast cells activation syndrome.
I have stopped all fermented foods and also a lot of healthy fruit and vegetables that have high histamine.
I think the so called healthy advocates, should mention, the side effects of too much fermented foods. It’s a terrible condition as I have to be careful what I eat now.
Taking Anti histamine tablets for three months and my GP will assess my situation. Thanks for listening.
I am looking forward to keeping abreast in updates because I deal with leaky gut, acid reflux.diabetes and so many autoimmune issues my whole life
Looks very interesting!!
